How Much to Tip a Barber?

Getting a great haircut can be as rare as finding the perfect girl. But when you are lucky enough to find an amazing barber or stylist, you’ll want to be remembered as a great client. Being clear about what type of haircut you want and offering images to help the barber or stylist understand your vision are a good first step.

During the session, chat politely but don’t go on and on about problems at your work or issue you are having with your girlfriend. The barber is not a therapist and trust us, they hear enough complaints throughout the day already.

Ask for the perfect gentleman’s shave and treat yourself to a hot towel and straight razor shave for a relaxing and rewarding mini spa experience.

Then when your face is smooth and silky, your hair has been shampooed, conditioned, cut and blown dry, it’s time to pay the bill and make a graceful exit. But don’t forget the tip. Tipping is an absolute necessity in much of the service industry and expected when you’ve received a good cut and quality service.

A standard tip for good service should be 15% to 20% of the total bill. It is also a good policy to always tip those who provided other services like the assistant who shampooed your hair or the manicurist who polished your nails. If a separate barber performed the shave, they should receive a full tip of 15% to 20% of the cost of the shave as well.
