Fred Astaire – Dancer, singer, actor and style icon

Lithe and lean, famed American actor and dancer Fred Astaire (1899 – 1987) wore clothes that complimented and accentuated his well trained frame. A Nebraskan farm boy, Astaire took to acting and fashion from an early age and established himself as one of America’s premier singers and actors during Hollywood’s Gilded Era.

Astaire took great pride in his dress and paid close attention to detail, often wearing custom made blazers and slim fitting suits that showed off his sleek frame without fitting too tightly. Iconic in top hat and tails, Astaire was most comfortable in Saville Row tailored suits and quite able to play with fashion, using colorful, pattern ties as belts, for instance, in order to create his own unique look.
