The measurement of hips is very important when tailoring a jacket for a man’s suit. If enough space is provided around the body, it will allow the suit to fit comfortably while preserving the shape.
To measure the hips properly, make sure that you have first removed everything from your pockets. Measure around the fullest part of the buttocks and hips with your heels together. Ensure that the tape is kept parallel to the floor and be careful not to pull the tape too tight.
It is difficult to measure your own hips accurately. Use the services of a friend – or better still, a professional tailor.
While trying on your men’s suit jackets, make sure that it offers enough space around the hips for easy comfortable movement.
