KS Fit 101 – Getting Fit

measure-tailorPart of our job at Knot Standard is to guide our customers to the perfect fit. An impeccable fit is the ultimate mark of a well-dressed man. It suggests confidence, attention to detail and affluence.

There are several things to consider – shoulders, collars, jacket length, etc – important for achieving a perfect fit. Discuss with your bespoke advisor these points of measurement as you get started creating your first custom-made suit.

Start with the jacket.

1. Neck. The girth of your neck should be gauged by placing the measuring tape around the lower part of your neck, with your finger inside the tape measure. If you can’t turn your neck or feel constricted, its too tight.

2. Shoulders: The widest part of your shoulders, across the top from edge to edge, should determine your shirt and suit measurements. A good tailor will take into account the naturally curving contour and this will result in a cleaner, better fit.

3. Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest. Don’t puff yourself out – this isn’t Survivor. But don’t hold your breath either.

4. Same thing goes for your stomach. Some of us may need to lay off the chicken wings for a bit but don’t fantasize that you’ll lose that extra tire before your suit shows up. Get the right measurements, then go to the gym. It’s much easier to take in a jacket then to let one out.
