Movember – 7 tips for the growing a mustache

The portmanteau Movember is meant to highlight through a global awareness campaign men’s health issues including prostate, testitcular and other types of cancer as well as depression. The Movember Foundation holds an annual charity event and encourages men across the globe to grow mustaches during the month of November to support this awareness campaign.

Knot Standard is proud to support men’s health awareness and with that we offer a few short tips for taking care of facial hair – something you’ll need if you take part in Movember this month.

  1. Let it grow. Let it grow. Don’t hold it back anymore. Some guys can grow a beard overnight but others take weeks. Don’t stress after a few days if all you see are a few scraggly hairs. Be patient and it will fill out.
  2. After you’ve achieved a little length, keep facial hair neat with scissors or clippers.
  3. Remember to take care of your skin. Use a quality men’s moisturizer at night before you sleep and be sure to eat healthy, get fresh air and exercise.
  4. When growing a mustache, use your upper lip line as the guide. Keep hairs trimmed and neat and above your upper lip line. This will help you shape the mustache as it grows.
  5. Decide how you want the mustache to look and work slowly on a daily regime to achieve this. Check out these greatest mustaches of all time for inspiration.
  6. Comb it daily. If you are intent on a shapely and interesting lip accessory, get busy combing it.
  7. Use mustache wax. You will need to visit your local barber or a men’s salon. Make sure you get the real stuff and not some gel. This can be used for shaping the mustache once its long enough.
