What to Pack for a Weekend Getaway: Country vs City

Everyone looks forward to a weekend away but failure to choose the right clothes for your destination can ruin your weekend before its even started. Heading off to the country for a much deserved break from the noise and crowds or spending a few days roaming your favorite city? Here’s some quick ideas for how to pack for either so you can focus on the fun.

Country gentleman

  1. Choose denim jeans in a relaxed fit and pair with a gingham cotton shirt for a comfortable but stylish look.
  2. For those cool autumn days and cooler autumn nights, layer up with a navy pullover knit sweater and a sport coat. Choose a wool and cashmere blend in a textured pattern, brown hound’s-tooth, for example, to add some depth to your look.
  3. Pack boots, a couple pairs of warm socks and a water resistant watch with a compass, just in case. Inside your dopp kitt, don’t forget matches in a waterproof pouch, sunglasses and a pocketknife.

  1. Weekends are meant to be relaxing but that doesn’t mean you can’t dress to impress and still be comfortable. Elevate your city weekend look with a suit and tie. A classic dark grey glen plaid with light blue oxford can be switched up for several day outfits.
  2. Pair the suit pants with a navy blazer for Saturday afternoon at the museums and wear the suit jacket with jeans and a hunter green pullover knit for Saturday night dinner.
  3. The blue oxford worn with the hunter green pullover also works great with the jeans for Sunday brunch.

Don’t forget a few accessories – especially a textured tie and complimentary pocket square to add a touch of flourish to your look.guys-city-2guys-style-1
