Optimism and excitement ruled the four days of Pitti Uomo this June, when Italy’s top fashion houses and merchants gathered for the biannual trade fair. Known for setting global trends in men’s fashion, Pitti Uomo is a veritable feast of styles, looks and sartorial statements and among the bazaar, Knot Standard identified five trends we think will dominate men’s fashion in the coming year.
- Pastel colors. From peach and cotton candy blazers to apricot yellow shirts and lavender slacks, pastel ruled. We loved the idea of pastel suit jackets and how well they work for spring and summer.
- White trousers and white chinos were all the rage. Given the heat and the timing, white is to be expected for a summer trade show but this year white was paired with beige, pastel, tea as well as monochrome black and ever trendy cobalt blue. White pants are great for keeping cool in the heat, and can be matched with anything up top.
- Back from the 80s, panama hats have returned with a vengeance. Stylish, light and perfect for outdoor summer activities, the panama can also be customized, decorated or worn in varying shades of tan, neutral, and even black. It’s definitely bringing gentlemen chic back to casual wear.
- Lightweight jacketing. Neapolitan, lightweight jackets have reached popularity far beyond Italy and Europe. From across the globe, guys in the know are choosing the softer Neapolitan shoulders, with minimal construction and no lining. It‘s like wearing a second shirt.
