Polyester

Polyester is a synthetic yarn widely used for men’s suits because it enables the maker – usually a factory-based mass-production manufacturer – to cuts costs and add durability.

These days 100% polyester is rarely used for men’s suits, partly because it has a distinctively plasticky sheen and a slippery feel and partly because the material is not good at coping with moisture, which means sweat tends to be retained in the garment.

But a polyester blend with another fabric, generally wool, is a reasonable compromise – the polyester adds durability and longevity to the mix. The material is also more resistant to wrinkles, can help a men’s suit to hold its shape better, and also repels water and dirt more effectively.
