Tie Clips

There are times when you want to accessorize your suit a bit more; the tie clip is a perfect solution. The tie clip is an accessory that is functional as well as decorative. The tie clip is usually made of metal and frequently has some kind of decoration, typically engraving or embellishment in the form of enameling or a small badge or logo.

A tie clip does exactly what the name implies: it clips a tie on to the shirtfront beneath. Tie clips became popular in the 1920s as a replacement for tiepins, which could damage the newly fashionable straight ties made of silk and other high-grade materials.

A tie clip prevents your tie from getting into coffee or food, it means it can never slip in between closing elevator doors, and it ensures that you will arrive at the meeting with your tie hanging straight and neat.

Don’t wear the clip too high or too low. The general thumb rule is that the tie should be worn between the third and fourth button of your shirt.

And finally, never wear a tie clip that is bigger than your tie!
