Tie Colours

Men’s ties are available in a huge range of colors, from discreet and muted to radiant and gorgeous – the human eye can distinguish almost 16 million different color shades, and men’s ties seem to come in most of them. Just remember what looks great on that mannequin might not really have the same impact when you wear it.

If you have dark hair and a dark complexion, go for a bright tie; if you’re fair, choose a darker color. If your hair and skin tone contrast, wear a tie that contrasts with your skin tone.

An unpatterned tie in a solid color is the most versatile option for men’s ties because it is appropriate with everything. Certainly for formal occasions, choose a solid colored tie that’s darker than your shirt – and a dark tie is always appropriate for business wear.

Red is one of the safest colors because it goes with blacks, whites, nudes and many other hues. Strong reds are full of energy, are commonly associated with passion, power, love, and authority, and can create a dashing impression; the enthusiasm that portrays can reflect your mood, but it can change your mood as well. But because it is such an attention-grabbing color, you should use it with care. Red ties do look nice with navy, grey, and charcoal suits.

If you are looking for a bright and lively tie color without the boldness of bright red, choose a shades of red that contains a larger portion of brown – so check out the more conservative shades like maroon and burgundy. They are timelessly elegant and so make an excellent choice for business.

Blue is another widely chosen color palette for men’s ties thanks to its versatility – you can choose from serene, mature shades or much brighter, livelier hues. The darker, stronger blues suggest a calm and soothing nature, elegance, and maturity; darker blue ties can be worn in spring as well as winter, light blue is a more playful color that suits the spring and summer months.

Pink is a color that pairs the passion of red with the purity of white and so is wide regarded as a romantic colour. It also works well with dark suits.

Yellow is a color that is not a popular choice for business (it is usually perceived as somewhat frivolous or playful) but can look good paired with navy or beige colored suits – especially in summer.

Black is of course the color for formal dress, especially evening functions when paired with white shirts, black or charcoal suits, and black dress shoes.

For deep color quality on silk men’s ties, make sure they’re woven rather than screen-printed – meaning that the color is in the yarn rather than applied afterwards.
