Top 5 tips for What to Wear for Graduation

It’s almost time to order those caps and gowns. A few more months until school is out for the summer and for many young men, professional life starts. If you are among those lucky few planning to walk across the stage this spring and collect your degree or diploma, then now is the time to start thinking about what you’ll be wearing beneath your academic robes.

You might be wearing a gown for a few hours – depending on your class size – and in a crowded gym or out in the hot sun, the last thing you want are sweat spots when you finally strip off the cap and gown.

  1. Start with the right underclothes. White cotton T-shirt and cotton briefs or boxers.
  2. Have a suit custom made to fit you perfectly and set yourself up for the inevitable job interviews. The Classic Navy Prince of Wales is the perfect graduation suit. Lightweight and versatile, comes with skinny notch lapel and two button jacket, the Navy Prince of Wales is suitable for both casual and formal wear and is a closet essential you’ll wear long after you’ve landed that first job or begun your MBA.
  3. Choose your tie to match your suit, your pocket square to complement your tie. Since most caps and gowns are black, your tie, pocket square, belt, shoes and other accessories should work with your suit, especially as most of the photos taken will be after you remove the cap and gown.
  4. Speaking of photos, make sure your shirt is tucked in, suit jacket’s top button done up (never button the last button), tie is knotted properly and snug. We recommend the Windsor as a reliable and stylish knot, especially if you are wearing a spread collar shirt.
  5. Don’t forget a classic men’s watch. If you don’t have a quality watch yet, borrow your dad’s. This is one day you won’t want to be late.
