What to wear for a fall wedding

The fall season has begun in earnest and with it comes the full slate of fall weddings. Whether you are a friend of the bride or the groom, you’ll want to start planning for the big event by ordering a well tailored custom made suit. The first thing to consider when dressing for a fall wedding is the time of day and the venue. Outdoor weddings and evening weddings are especially popular in the fall and require a different look than indoor or morning affairs.

Here’s some quick tips on how to figure out what suit and tie works best for each occasion:

1

Daytime and outdoor weddings

The rule of thumb for daytime weddings is lighter fabrics and lighter colors. You still need to wear a suit but if it’s an outdoor wedding mid afternoon, consider dropping the tie and instead a brightly colored print pocket square for a festive touch. We recommend a light grey. Lighter blue or charcoal suit with pastel colored men’s dress shirt and a complimentary pocket square.

2

Evening weddings

Night time weddings are always more formal and its best to dress for the occasion with a darker colored suit. Choose navy, charcoal or chocolate but skip the black (you don’t want to be mistaken for one of the waiters) and pair with a white men’s dress shirt and darker, textured tie and complimentary pocket square.

Night time weddings are also great for an added level of formality so if you have a favorite three piece suit, they are a great chance to wear one.

3

Always consider the venue

Along with the time of day, it’s important to consider the venue where the wedding will take place. Church weddings or those held in hotels or wedding halls tend to be more formal affairs than ones held in the countryside, outdoors, on the beach or at weekend destinations.
