Windowpane Check

The windowpane check is a specific pattern for men’s suits that bestows an unmistakable distinguished look. It is a widely spaced pattern of vertical and horizontal pinstripes that intersect each other to form a box pattern resembling the panes in a window.

The windowpane check is one of three variants of the basic plaid pattern, all of which aim to create an interesting visual depth which highlights the aesthetic appeal of a man’s suit. The other two are the Glen plaid (a tight twill pattern of broken checks) and the Prince of Wales check (basically a Glen plaid over the windowpane check).

Windowpane checks can be complemented with a solid colored shirt or a patterned tie; you could also experiment with three patterns – including a light check or striped shirt, say, with a patterned tie – to add an extra dimension to your look.
