Dropping Knowledge

coatIf you’re a body builder or a UFC fighter you’ve probably heard of the ‘drop’. If you’re a regular guy who wears men’s suits to the office or only on special occasions, the drop is probably just another one of those sartorial mysteries, a tailor’s term that requires measuring tapes, stick pins and too much time to figure out.

The drop is the difference, measured in inches, between the width of your suit jacket and the width of your pants. Since the suit jacket is measured at the widest point of the chest and pants are measured at the natural waist, there is naturally a difference in width.

Typical off-the-rack or made-to-measure suits provide a standard six inch drop. In other words, if your suit jacket is 40R, then your pants waist will be 34 inches. The problem is that if you fall outside this average, your suit jacket may end up being too wide or the pants waist too narrow.

Knot Standard’s customized men’s suits overcome the hurdle of an unusual drop for men of any sizes. If you’re tall, we’ve got the drop for you. If you’re wide chested but narrow hipped, we’ve got the drop for you. In fact, whatever your chest width or waist size, we’ve got the drop for you since all of Knot Standard’s suits are exactly that – not standard. We make suits in only one size and one drop – yours.
