Handkerchief Fabrics

A man’s suit can come in a variety of fabrics, which defines its elegance and sophistication. In the same way, the man’s handkerchief too is available in a variety of colors and materials.

For everyday use, think practically rather than style: a cotton handkerchief is absorbent and effective for utilitarian applications.

The fabric of the handkerchief is of key importance here since it reflects the purpose. A cotton handkerchief has the utility value of being used for wiping and other regular purposes. By contrast, a silk handkerchief will be used for decorative purposes and accessorizing like pocket squares.

Given the high price of silk, you would definitely not want to use a silk handkerchief for wiping your hands!

Pocket squares are popular for accessorizing. This is because they have a sheen that enhances the look of your men’s suit. Silk is inevitably the preferred fabric, but other materials are available as well – including some manmade fabrics with silk-like properties.

Environment-friendly pocket squares and handkerchiefs made from linen and natural cotton are available, too. However, they are regarded as more appropriate for linen suits and similar more casual outfits.

When choosing the handkerchief you should consider the maintenance factor. Soft material cotton might work much better than polyester. Also, it is easier to maintain cotton on a regular basis as compared to silk, which needs special washing.
