The Windsor Knot

The Windsor is a tie knot popularized by the Duke of Windsor in the 1930s and useful in producing a large, symmetrical knot that suits a spread collar particularly well. But it has a reputation for being difficult to tie. This is how to get it right:

The Windsor Knot - How to Guide.

The Windsor Knot – How to Guide.

Step 1: Place the tie on the neck so that the wider end is on the left side and the thinner is on the right. Make sure the wider end hangs longer over your neck.

Step 2: Move the wider end towards the right and across the narrower one.

Step 3: Pass the wider end upwards and then below the loop of the neck area.

Step 4: Move the wider end back down, right on top of the neck loop. Then turn the wide end across the narrow one, towards the left, right below it.

Step 5: Loop the wider end across the neck by passing the wider end upwards. Tie the loop around the neck and then pull it down.

Step 6: Turn the wider end above and across the narrower one. Then pass the wider end below the neck loop, in an upward direction.

Step 7: Finally, pass the wide end downwards inside the last loop and tighten.

Congratulations! You’ve tied a Windsor knot!
