Which Character Are You?

Michael-Fassbender-and-Javier-Bardem-in-The-CounsellorSuits play a modest but telling role in Ridley Scott’s new film, The Counselor. Billed as ‘No Country for Old Men’ on steroids, the movie’s original screen play was written by well-known author Cormac McCarthy (The Road, The Border Trilogy) and has an all-star cast including Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz and Michael Fassbender as a greedy lawyer who gets involved with the drug trade and quickly gets in over his head.

Expected to be one of this year’s grittiest, most violent-ridden films, The Counsellor’s wardrobe choices are an interesting commentary on the way clothing and suits, in particular, make the man. In scene after scene, Fassbender sports the conservative, almost boring suit and tie – the stereotypical wardrobe of the lawyer.

Middleman Westry (played by Brad Pitt) complements his shady character with cowboy chic. We love him in the two toned brown suit with peak lapels, snakeskin belt, Stetson and cowboy boots. Pitt’s dandy cowboy suits stand in stark contrast to the lawyer’s conservative gray suit with notch lapels, light blue men’s dress shirt and navy blue polka dot tie.

Javier Bardem’s night club owner character Reiner’s ostentatious electric blue pants, Versace print shirts and spiky hair take the stereotype of the flamboyant drug trader to a whole new level of eccentric. Watch the trailer to see the way wardrobe is used to convey character.
