Ties

It’s widely accepted that a man’s suit is incomplete without a tie. Wear a tie and you can carry a suit to almost any level. Without a tie, you restrict yourself majorly in terms of the professionalism you exude and the places where you will be accepted (in some restaurants, theaters and clubs you will be denied entry without a tie).

Essentially, a tie is a long piece of fabric that is worn around the neck and knotted there. The primary purpose is to enhance the look of the shirt and jacket worn with it. This approach developed alongside the cravat, a loosely tied item of neckwear worn under the shirt in the manner of a scarf. Today ties come in two basic forms – the bow tie, which has a stylized bow around the knot and little or no ‘tongue’ coming down; and the necktie, which is knotted midway along its length so that the two ends fall down the front of the shirt. Neckties are normally worn with the top shirt button fastened, and the tie knot sitting between the points of the shirt collar.

Broad, thin and regular size neckties are available with us in prints and plain patterns. Choose something that complements your outfit, rather than by going by what is in vogue.

Most neckties come in a standard length to suit most body types, but it is possible to find ties that are to suit an individual’s height and body type. For instance, men’s ties are available for shorter men to create the illusion of increased height. The tie should have the right length to give a good impression. The wide end of the tie should cover the entire button row of the shirt and run down to a fraction above above the belt buckle. A little more length on the tie can make a tall man look a little shorter; less length can help a shorter man appear slightly taller. If you have trouble getting the length of your tie right, you might try switching to a different knot. The Windsor knot is the thickest, and because it uses more of the tie’s length it will make your tie shorter; the half Windsor is a thinner knot and will allow your tie to be a bit longer.
