A Suit for a Wedding

Most of the attention at a wedding ceremony should be cantered on the bride, but the groom should not let go of the chance to look his best in complementing the bride’s appearance.

The key rules for wearing a man’s suit at a wedding are:

• Do not wear anything that will upstage the bride
• Do not wear clothes or styles that clash with the bride’s
• The groom should be distinguishable from the groomsmen
• The groomsmen should be dressed to complement the groom instead of upstaging him
• Choose a suit fabric that will still look after an evening of dancing and sitting.
• Wear comfortable shoes, especially if you are the groom – you will have to circulate at the wedding reception and will probably dance with guests.

For a traditional wedding in the States, a sharp, well-fitted tuxedo with a waistcoat, tie and formal dress shirt is the perfect choice for the groom and groomsmen. In Britain, the most formal option is a black morning coat, grey or grey pinstripe trousers, white shirt and plain or decorated waistcoat. Otherwise a good-quality lounge suit in a conservative color is the safe option.

If the wedding is planned for the summer, you might choose suits that are made with lighter fabric and lighter colors.
