Jackets Without Vents

A vent is a slit in the rear of a man’s suit jacket, and traditionally a suit jacket had one or two.

Ventless jackets were initially conceived by Italian designers as a way of displaying a sharp, unbroken silhouette.

As with much cutting-edge fashion, the ventless jacket has today become a standard option for the jacket of a man’s suit. Dinner jackets are always ventless.

A jacket without vents is aesthetically clean, allowing a neater, slimmer, uncluttered line over the hips; and it holds its shape at all times.

But this style does not allow the wearer to move freely as in single or double vent jackets. When you sit down or reach for a trouser pocket, there is nowhere for the jacket to move to; creases and bunching at the rear can ruin the elegant look.
