Comedian Wonho Chung on custom clothing, Knot Standard and looking good
You don’t have to look funny to be funny. Just ask comedian and actor Wonho Chung. As a brand ambassador for Knot Standard, Wonho combines his humor and stage presence with custom made clothes for the perfect look and feel.
“Confidence,” says Wonho. “That’s what I get with Knot Standard. The clothes are elegant, classic and of course the fit is amazing. But it’s the confidence that resonates most with me. My job is very image driven, standing in front of a camera or on stage. You always need to look your best and looking good and looking well put together gives you confidence.”
Wonho grew up in Jordan and speaks fluent Arabic. His comedy career began in November 2007 when Showtime Arabia approached him to join the Axis of Evil comedy tour as the “Korean” they were looking for. They originally wanted a North Korean to complete the Axis, but instead settled for a South Korean, who speaks Arabic. He toured with the Axis of Evil comedy tour for a month, performing in 27 shows in front of 20,000 people collectively, in Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon and Dubai.
Wonho’s has interviewed dozens of Hollywood celebrities, is a trained vocalist and a professional table tennis player. He presented a weekly infotainment show called ‘Showmemore’ in Arabic and interviewed many celebrities, actors and musicians including Academy Award winning French actress Juliette Binoche, reggae singing sensation Shaggy, soul music superstar John Legend, 2008 Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza, fashion icon Roberto Cavalli and hit maker James Blunt to name but a few.
Selected by Esquire Magazine as one of the ‘Best Dressed Men’ of the UAE in 2014, Wonho recommends Knot Standard’s custom clothing for a variety of reasons. “First of all it saves you time. If I have an event or an important business meeting and want to look sharp, you can get everything you need made especially for you. Instead of going to different shops and looking for what you want, create it yourself. You can choose the fabrics, the cut, the style and three weeks later, it’s on your doorstep. For instance, I just ordered a whole summer wardrobe – linen pants, light cotton men’s dress shirts, summer jackets – and in a few weeks it will be at my door just in time for summer,” he explains.
“Second, Knot Standard’s pricing is incredibly reasonable – somewhere between high street and high end. But the quality and choice of fabrics and the workmanship are superb and far beyond what you will get for the price elsewhere. Knot Standard offers men’s clothes that don’t cost as much as a designer outfits would but that look and fit much better.”
“Third, it just makes sense. I have bought lots of clothes and they never felt right. Now I realize they were not the right cut for me, or the right length. Why struggle to find pants that fit or have a designer shirt altered to shorten the sleeves when you can spend the same amount of money or even less and have clothes that are custom made for you?
Wonho was introduced to custom clothing and Knot Standard through a friend. “I heard of bespoke tailoring and Saville Road but like most guys, I never thought about it because I didn’t know much about it. I thought the experience might be overwhelming and the process might be too long. But when I tried it, I found the process very simple. And the stylists help you with everything. Now I would never go back to just buying randomly from shops when I can buy custom-made clothes that will fit me just right, every time.”
